“ This strange, six foot-long giant is Baculites, which feeds near the sea floor. ”

Baculites (Walking Stick Rock) is a genus of baculitid ammonite cephalopod that lived in North America and Europe, around 96 - 61 million years ago, from the Cenomanian stage of the Late Cretaceous Period to the Danian Stage of the Early Paleocene Period. Given that the segment it appeared in was set in the Tethys Ocean, the species depicted on the show may be either Baculites vertebralis, which briefly survived the Cretaceous-Paleogene Extinction event (as indicated by fossils in Denmark and the Netherlands),[2] or Baculites anceps, which is known from Upper Maastrichtian sites in Europe.
